HDMI® has the advantages of small size, high transmission rate, wide bandwidth, good compatibility, and the ability to simultaneously transmit uncompressed audio and video signals. Compared with traditional fully analog interfaces, HDMI® not only increases the convenience of device to device wiring, but also provides some intelligent features unique to HDMI®, such as consumer electronic control CEC and extended display recognition EDID. An HDMI® cable is composed of 19 wires. The HDMI® system consists of an HDMI® transmitter and receiver. Devices that support HDMI® interfaces typically have one to multiple interfaces, and each HDMI® input of the device must comply with the specifications for the transmitter and each HDMI® output must comply with the specifications for the receiver. The TMDS data transmission channel and clock channel are composed of 4 pairs of differential transmission lines among the 19 HDMI® cables. These four channels are used to transmit audio signals, video signals, and auxiliary signals. In addition, HDMI® also has a VESA DDC channel, also known as the Display Data Channel, which enables the exchange of status information between signal sources and receivers for configuration, enabling devices to output in the most appropriate way.
Generally speaking, a computer with an HDMI® output port is an HDMI® signal source, and a TV with an HDMI® input port is a receiver. After connecting the computer and TV through an HDMI® cable, it is equivalent to the TV becoming the second display screen of the computer.
Only one HDMI® cable is needed to transmit audio and video signals simultaneously, without the need for multiple cables to connect; Meanwhile, due to the absence of digital/analog or analog-to-digital conversion, higher audio and video transmission quality can be achieved.
